If you're able to follow all the guidelines from your workplace to add email and calendar to your local devices, this note isn't for you. Feel free to skip it!
My boss has asked me to install certain profiles on my personal devices (MacBook and iPhone). If I do this, these profiles will have complete control over my devices. There are too many risks of compromising personal credentials! I'm not comfortable with that. So, the question is: How can I integrate the work email system and calendar without installing these profiles on my devices?
One solution is to forward emails from your work account to your personal email account. To set this up in Outlook:
- Go to Settings → Mail → Forwarding
- Enable "Enable forwarding"
- Enter your personal email address
- Tick "Keep a copy of forwarded messages" (to retain emails in your work account)
This way, you'll receive all work emails in your personal inbox, allowing you to read them without installing profiles on your devices.
Whenever your work account receives an email, it will automatically forward it to your personal account, keeping you informed.
Limitation: While you can read these emails, you won't be able to reply using your work email address.
To integrate your work calendar with your personal devices, you need to publish it and then subscribe to it from your personal account. Here's how:
In Outlook:
- Go to Settings → Calendar → Shared calendars
- In the "Publish a calendar" section, select your work calendar
- Set permissions and click Publish
- Copy the published URL
In your personal account (e.g., Google Calendar):
- Go to the "Other calendars" section
- Click "+" → From URL
- Paste the URL you copied from Outlook
- Click "Add calendar"
You can rename the added calendar later if desired.
On your phone or laptop, remember to enable the display of the newly added calendar. That's all there is to it!
